December 18, 2009, Newsletter Issue #31: Author Bestseller Qualifications

Tip of the Week

I would bet that there isn't an author alive that hasn't thought about having his/her book on the coveted <bestseller list>, whether it be <The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times>, Business Week or any one of the national bestseller lists around the country.

How do you know if you have the <bestseller> qualifications? Oh, you think it's all about the number of books that are sold?  While that is the primary key to <creating a bestselling book> there is one other specification needed and that is a <savvy author>. What do I mean by that? Well, how do you think a book actually lands on a bestseller list?

Selling the number of books that it takes to hit a "list" is staggering. The number of book sales could range fromt 1,000 to 10,000 or more in a week!  This requires tireless efforts on the author's part to do everything in the way of publicity and promotion that is humanly possible and then some.

If you're curious if you have what it takes to put your book on a bestseller list, first consider the amount of time you have and then consider your budget. If you think you're good at juggling and multi-tasking, you will be put to the ultimate test by setting out to do what is next to impossible, but hey, you might just get lucky.

If you'd like some tips on how to create a successful book campaign, I invite you to check out my new book, <101 Author Tips: Creating A Successful Book Campaign>, that will be available May 2009.
